Meghalaya – Keerthika Venkatesh

Meghalaya, one of the most beautiful states in India.A world where man does not use nature for profits but lives in harmony with it. So we planned a trip to Meghalaya from Chennai. It was a seven-day road trip that started from Guwahati. We have to reach Guwahati by our own transport. From there a camp advisor will coordinate us and take us to our day one destination which is Jowai where we will be able to see Umiam Lake. It’s a beautiful view. There are some nearby small shops which sell Maggie, tea, corn, pakoras, etc. It’s a perfect place to stand and have a sip of tea while enjoying the beautiful view. Next is the Elephant falls which is a must-visit the place. It is properly maintained. It’s an awesome place to spend some time with nature and to click beautiful pictures. Then Krang Shuri falls one of the popular waterfalls of Meghalaya. The sound of the falls will calm and refresh your mind.

DAY 2 Will be around Dawki. The first place of the day will be Shnongpdeng. It is a beautiful place located in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya where the serene Umngot river flows. This river is so clean that the boats look like they are floating in thin air, followed by Bangladesh’s border. We had lunch in the midway and the lunch was so hit and the taste of the food was so different from the regular one. The last place of the day is the Umngot island. It is an awesome place, an open environment. We enjoyed so much fun with so many kinds of water activities. The day went on so quickly as we enjoyed a lot with the water rides.

The first destination of the day is Mawlynnong (Asia’s cleanest Village). Later saw the living root bridge. It was fantastic to see the living root of trees making a bridge over the fall, people crossing it. The treehouse is made of Bamboo and ropes made of tree roots. The rest of the day was spent shopping in the streets of Mawlynnong the prices of products were reasonable.

Our day four started at Nongriat, The living root bridges of Nongriat village are one of the manmade wonders, dating back many centuries. The aerial roots of the Banyan tree on opposite sides of the river give direction until it can be shaped and strengthened to the sturdy bridge. Next is the Mawkdok dumped valley. We stopped at the place because it was on our way to Cherrapunji and we were awestruck by the beauty of the place. The place offers a splendid serene view where you can spend hours easily. There’s also zip lining that will enrapture you. There’s good food available around the corner. It is an amazing experience to be in this place and enjoy nature’s beauty. The last one of the day is double Decker Bridge. It is very adventurous and also becomes dense as you go beyond the bridge. Be careful of insects and even the stones and huge rocks are shaky.

The fifth day is also at the Nongriat village. Rainbow Falls are definitely worth the medium strenuous hike towards them. It was quite splendid and serene scenery. Make sure to wear suitably serious walking shoes. The fifth day was quite boring as we went to one place but it was pleasant for the eyes.

The last day at Meghalaya was fully packed as we got to see a lot at the Cherrapunjee. The seven sister’s falls. The seven sisters fall is a kind of waterfall that symbolizes the seven states in the northeast namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, and Meghalaya. The view is spectacular and completely engross one individual with the view. Next, we went to the Nohkalikai falls which were one of the taller and most dramatic waterfalls that we’ve encountered in India. Next is the Mawsmai Caves, It has amazing structures and formation in a small length with water dripping from the roof. It is a must- visit place. Next is the Eco Park which is one of the popular tourist attractions of Cherrapunjee from where the visitors can enjoy the lovely view of the ‘Green Canyons’ of Cherapunji along with the waterfalls that are located nearby. The last destination of the day is Arwah cave. Fossils are amazing. A fun place to visit. The view from the path to the cave is amazing. There is a swing with the view of the valley. Couples should give it a try.

On the last day of the trip, we all traveled back to Guwahati to get back to our homes. This was one of my best travel experiences to Meghalaya. Thank you tent n trek for the amazing travel and help us explore new places. This was a hassle-free, fully organized budget-friendly trip.
